Lynwood Unified Selects Firm to Build New Classroom at Lynwood High School Imperial Campus

In a dedicated effort to ensure the reconstruction project at the Lynwood High School Imperial Campus remains on schedule, the Lynwood Unified Board of Education has awarded Bernards, an award-winning and renowned construction company, a $95 million contract to build the new state-of-the-art classroom facility.

The unanimous decision, made during the October 24 Board meeting, follows a rigorous, competitive bidding process. All prospective bidders were pre-qualified to demonstrate the expertise necessary to meet high standards and adhere to the Board-approved Project Labor Agreement.

“The bid came approximately $20 million under our estimates, allowing us to allocate the remaining funds to support additional improvements across the campus,” Assistant Superintendent of Business Services Gretchen Janson, Ed.D., said. “We are committed to securing the best value and ensuring high-quality work that benefits our students, staff and community.”

Bernards will begin moving equipment onto the site in November and conduct preliminary work to prepare for deep soil mixing this spring. The District anticipates holding a groundbreaking ceremony in December, symbolizing the start of a new chapter for Lynwood High School.

The project will include a three-story, 175,000-square-foot building housing 70 classrooms, all designed to support hands-on learning and modern educational experiences. The building will offer specialized spaces, including a culinary arts kitchen, advanced medical training labs, dedicated art rooms, a new kiln and refreshed interior design. Athletic facilities will also be upgraded with new softball, baseball and practice soccer fields.

As the lead builder, Bernards will bring its expertise to this major construction effort, ensuring the facility meets the high standards of quality and innovation that Lynwood Unified envisions for its students.

The Board also approved a $947,000 contract with Huckabee – the construction management firm currently overseeing all aspects of the project – to manage the improvements needed for the remaining campus buildings. This includes the performing arts center, gymnasium, administration building, library, cafeteria and industrial arts buildings. With one firm managing the entire rebuild, Lynwood Unified aims for a well-coordinated, seamless process.

The campus is scheduled to reopen in fall 2027. For more information and ongoing updates on the project, please visit http://bit.ly/LHSUpdates  and follow us on Instagram and Facebook.
