Lynwood Unified School District is proudly emphasizing its commitment to equity and celebrating the diversity of its students, faculty, staff, alumni and community through a series of events in recognition of Pride Month.
To kick off the month, Superintendent Gudiel R. Crosthwaite, Ph.D. and District administrators gathered on June 3 to raise the Progress Pride flag at the District Office for the second year in a row, symbolizing the District's dedication to fostering an inclusive environment for students and staff.
As part of its efforts to provide scholars with a safe space to come together, share ideas and be represented, the District's Equity, Access and Instructional Services Department hosted the second annual Pride Summit on June 4. Students and allies shared their personal stories and received encouragement from District leaders, providing a vital platform for the LGBTQIA+ community to connect and thrive.
During its June 6 board meeting, the Board of Education unanimously passed a resolution honoring LGBTQIA+ Pride Month and reaffirming the District’s commitment to its various initiatives, including establishing Gay-Straight Alliance clubs at secondary schools, offering social-emotional support services, and ensuring students have a voice in district committees and decision-making processes.
By raising the Progress Pride Flag and hosting events like the Pride Summit, the District continues to support and honor its LGBTQIA+ community and empower students, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity, to thrive and become the best versions of themselves.
