Nearly 900 Lynwood Unified students, families, staff and community partners came together on May 11 to support the education and ongoing success of Lynwood scholars – raising nearly $68,000 – as part of the third annual Lynwood Run 5K/10K.
Hosted by the Lynwood Partners Education Foundation (LPEF) in partnership with the District, the City of Lynwood and Aztlan Athletics, the fundraising event drew 855 participants who ran or walked 3-6 miles through the City of Lynwood.
The exciting venture began and concluded at Lynwood City Hall, with participants receiving a commemorative t-shirt and finish medal to demonstrate their Lynwood pride as they circled the city. They also had the opportunity to explore several resource booths and vendors. The fourth annual Lynwood 5K/10K will take place on May 10, 2025.
LPEF, a nonprofit organization established in 2015, has secured over $1 million in funding for students in Pre-K through grade 12 via college scholarships, STEM programs and other resources crucial to students’ success. The Foundation also supports teacher grants, school grants, arts education and wellness initiatives. This year, up to $100,000 in college scholarships will be awarded to graduating Lynwood seniors on June 13. The Foundation is set to open the Lynwood Alumni Center to support students beyond graduation on May 30.
For her work on behalf of the Foundation to enhance access to educational programs and support student achievement, Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn honored Executive Director Elsa Chagolla on May 14.
“I joined the foundation in 2019 and it’s been a whirlwind,” Chagolla said. “The work we do is to create a brighter future for our Lynwood students and families and remove financial barriers to their success. On behalf of our Board of Directors, I am grateful for the support we’ve received from the District, donors and supporters to achieve our mission.”
