Dress Code & Campus Policies

Promoting Respect, Responsibility, and Readiness for Success

At Lynwood High School, we believe that the way students present themselves helps set the tone for learning, respect, and school pride. Our dress code is designed to support a safe and inclusive learning environment where students can focus on their education without distractions.

In accordance with Lynwood Unified School District policy and the California Education Code, students must come to school neat, clean, and dressed in a way that promotes health, safety, and a positive learning environment.

General Guidelines

  • Students must wear shoes at all times – for safety, no slippers or bare feet.

  • Clothing must cover undergarments at all times. This means:

    • No see-through or fishnet materials

    • No halter tops, crop tops, or off-the-shoulder shirts

    • No bare midriffs or low-cut tops

    • Skirts and shorts must be at least mid-thigh length

  • Oversized or sagging clothes that expose undergarments are not allowed.

  • Crop tops and tops that show the stomach are not allowed.

Inappropriate Attire Includes:

  • Gang-related clothing or symbols, as determined by school administration

  • Tattoos or images that promote drugs, alcohol, violence, or hate must be covered

  • Clothing, backpacks, jewelry, or accessories with crude, vulgar, sexually suggestive, or offensive language or imagery

  • Body piercings that pose safety concerns, such as spike earrings

  • Hats, caps, or head coverings worn indoors (unless for religious or medical purposes)

  • Headwear with inappropriate embroidery or symbols may be confiscated

Personal Belongings

All personal items (including backpacks, water bottles, buttons, gym bags, etc.) must also follow the guidelines above and be free of any inappropriate logos, language, or imagery.

Consequences

Students who wear clothing that violates the dress code may:

  • Be asked to change

  • Have items confiscated and held in the main office until the end of the school day

  • Face additional consequences if violations continue

Parent & Student Responsibility

It is the responsibility of students and their families to ensure appropriate dress before arriving on campus. We encourage families to help reinforce these expectations at home.

The dress code will be reviewed and updated each semester by school administration, as needed. Let’s dress for success, every day — the Lynwood way!
