Lynwood Unified Honors the Power of Collective Leadership During School Board Recognition Month

During School Board Recognition Month in January, Lynwood Unified joins school districts nationwide in honoring the dedicated Board of Education members whose collaborative leadership strengthens schools, supports students and staff, and uplifts the broader community.

For the 2025-26 school year, Lynwood Unified is also commemorating its 75th anniversary by celebrating the legacy of current and past board members who play a vital role in uniting educators, families and community partners to support student achievement and well-being.

Through shared decision-making and a clear District vision, the Board has guided the District through major accomplishments over the past year. These include ensuring a seamless transition to new superintendent leadership, earning the 2025 CSBA Golden Bell Award for transformative family engagement and increasing Districtwide graduation rates.

The Board has also positioned Lynwood Unified as a leader in artificial intelligence by establishing a collaboration with OpenAI to provide all teachers and staff with access to ChatGPT, supporting instruction and enhancing efficiency across the District. In addition, the Board approved a 10.5% salary increase for teachers and staff through the 2027-28 school year, while ensuring the District remains financially stable.

The Board has also advanced key facilities priorities, including the continued reconstruction of the Lynwood High School Imperial Campus classroom building, a comprehensive facilities optimization process to promote fiscal accountability and future-ready schools, and the expansion of green spaces across District campuses, highlighted by the opening of a new Green Schoolyard at the Early Childhood Education Center at Lindbergh Elementary School.

At the District’s annual reorganization meeting on December 19, outgoing Board President Julian Del Real-Calleros was formally recognized and the following leadership roles were established for 2026:

  • Alfonso Morales, Esq., President
  • Maria G. Lopez, Vice President
  • Alma Carina Castro, Ed.D., Clerk
  • Julian Del Real-Calleros, Member
  • Gary Hardie, Jr., Ed.D., Member

Together, the Lynwood Unified Board of Education exemplifies how teamwork and shared commitment can create stronger schools and a collaborative community. Their collective leadership continues to move the District forward, fostering excellence in and beyond the classroom and building a brighter future for all students.
